The Magic of a Promise

Those who have great power in their own rights also have great influence on the world itself just through the words they speak. The more power and influence a person has, the more reality will bend itself to the words spoken. The most powerful words one can speak are Vows. Vows have a way of enforcing themselves, they bind the parties together in the fabric of creation itself. The closer the two parties are, the stronger the threads that bind them in the vow and the more disastrous the consequences if the vow is to break. Organisations can form extremely strong bonds, with vows taken by many people under the one arbiter joining together the yarn of each individual vow together into a tight knit, much stronger together.

Traditions

It is tradition in Wodland for each officiated vow to be bound in cord, with the participants each taking a small braid and binding it to their belt for as long as the vow remains in place. Common binds include leather, hide, yarn, and wire. Precious metals are often braided in for marriage bonds.
